Clarence House

Clarence House has been the official home of the Prince of Wales,The Duchess of Cornwall, and the Princes William and Harry since 2003. From 1953 to 2002 it was home to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

Completed in 1827 it was designed by John Nash and commissioned by William IV when he found nearby St. James' Place too cramped. The house is attached to the palace and shares its garden.

After the death of Queen Victoria's third son in 1942 it became the headquarters of the Red Cross and the St. John Ambulance Brigade for the rest of the war before being given to Princess Elizabeth and her husband, The Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen Mother moved in during 1953 on the death of George VI.

The house has four stories and is faced in pale stucco. It bears little resemblance to the Nash original as it has had many renovations over the years and it underwent massive refurbishment in 2002 following the Queen Mother's death.
